Mississippi State Contractor License Regulations

Mississippi requires a license for most all construction jobs performed in the state. To inquire whether or not a contractor has a certificate or license: Board of Contractors or call (800) 880-6161. To obtain an application, contact Mississippi Contractor Licensing Board, or call (601) 354-6161. On the application the Board will want to know about your company, employees, financial condition, equipment, and experience. You will need to show proof of workers' compensation, and liability insurance. You will need federal and state tax numbers, as well as a Certificate of Authority from the Mississippi Secretary of State. To get your Certificate, contact Secretary of State, or call (601) 359-1633. Residential contractors must also pass a residential trade exam to get a license. Exam is given by PSI Examination Services, (800) 733-9267.  To find out about compliance requirements regarding workers' compensation insurance, contact the Mississippi Workers' Compensation Commission website, you can also reach them toll free, at (866) 473 - 6922. Mississippi has reciprocity agreements with Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, and Louisiana.  Every contractor is required to pass the OSHA exam.
